Off to the French Quarter!

Well, the weekend I've been waiting for is finally here - my hubby and I are off to New Orleans for a long weekend to celebrate my cousin's wedding! And surprisingly, neither one of us have ever been there. All I know is that we're staying in the French Quarter, the rehearsal dinner is at Broussard's, and the wedding and reception are at Latrobe's on Royal (anyone familiar with either one?)

We'll have several hours to ourselves prior to the wedding on Saturday as well as all day Sunday - any suggestions for places to visit, eat, drink, or just check out?? We're hoping to do as much as we can possibly fit in!

Super Bowl Weekend in Indianapolis!

Well, the big weekend is finally here! While the Colts may not be playing in the Super Bowl, Indianapolis is certainly excited to be the host city and its all anyone here is talking about. Last weekend, my friends and I checked out Super Bowl village downtown, and this weekend I think we'll return. We don't have tickets to the game or to any of the big events, but how can we pass up the opportunity to just enjoy the excitement of the city?

There's so much attention on our city (for once!), it's hard not to be just a little excited. Jimmy Fallon has been taping in Indy all week, and apparently even The Today Show is taping from downtown tomorrow morning. And this is the first time I've heard of multiple celebrity sightings in one day - I'm enjoying the flood of facebook status updates and tweets from fellow friends' about their run-ins with celebs down-town. While this may seem pathetic for those of you who live in NYC or Cali, we Hoosiers are not used to having celebs in our city! But in all seriousness, I hope everyone has a fun Super Bowl Sunday planned. And for those of you who are Giants or Patriots fans, good luck!

I always enjoy browsing through Piperlime's "Girl on a Budget" section, which is dedicated to clothes, shoes, and accessories under $100. Today when I was checking it out, I came across this floral printed dress for only $54. Isn't it adorable??

It's actually an Olivia Palermo pick, as well. I love everything about this dress - the cut, the pleats, and the colors. I know the end of January is no time to wear this dress, but as my hubby and I finalized our spring break plans last night, I realized that with the coming of February, spring is really not that far off, right?! (I'm trying to be optimistic here!)

On another note, does anyone have any fun plans for this weekend? Since I live in Indianapolis, our city is really starting to amp up for the Super Bowl in a week! I'm actually going to the "NFL Experience" downtown tomorrow, which is described as an "interactive theme park". We're going mostly just to soak in the excitement of the city, but I've heard that you can zip-line through the city, meet NFL players, and I guess there are even simulations that make you feel like you are really passing on an NFL field. Anyway, should be interesting! Bummed that the Colts did so bad this year, but still excited to experience Indianapolis' first Super Bowl!

Well, it's finally the day! My husband and I are packing up our car with a week's worth of clothes, and headed to St. Louis to celebrate Christmas with my family, followed by a Christmas celebration the following weekend with his family. Can't beat that.

While reading my last issue of People Style Watch, an article about saving money caught my eye, specifically the part about renting designer looks at a fraction of the price. Have you ever rented a dress or a bag online? I don't know how I feel about wearing clothes that have been repeatedly worn by unknown people, but at the same time it sounds fantastic for those special events where you need an expensive dress or bag that you doubt you'll wear more than once.

Well, we did it! We finished our first half marathon on Saturday, and we finished in 1 hour and 50 minutes, under our goal of 2 hours. A little sore, but otherwise feeling great and extremely satisfied.

Half Marathon Weekend!

Well, the big weekend is finally here! My husband and I are running our first half marathon tomorrow - 13.1 miles. I hope my body can handle it!

Oh, and I'm not sure I ever updated you all on my knee. I bought new tennis shoes, bought a knee brace, and started doing some exercises to strengthen my knee, and the pain went away within about a week! So, I've been running pain-free throughout my training, which was one of my requirements.

Looking forward to crossing the finish line at or under 2 hours!

World Series Champs!

Well it's been a whirlwind of a month, but the Cardinals won the World Series! They went from barely making it into the post-season - they sneaked in as the wild card - to going all the way to game 7 of the World Series. And while game 7 was amazing, game 6 was the game that they're calling the best world series game in the history of baseball. Did anybody catch it? Here's the quick recap of game 6 from Stltoday.com:

"Two outs, bottom of the ninth, Cards down 7-5, two strikes against third baseman David Freese, who hits a triple off the right field wall to tie the game. Two outs, bottom of the 10th, Cards again down one (after already scoring once), runners on first and third, Lance Berkman at the plate, also down to his last strike, and he singles to center to tie the game. And then the bottom of the 11th, score tied, Freese again at the plate, and he hits a homer to center field to win the game. All that was missing was Robert Redford and some exploding lights. At that point, people were talking about this as one of the greatest World Series in years, and it wasn't even over yet."

Amazing, amazing weekend. So proud to see St. Louis celebrate, and wish I was there to join in on the fun! But, since I'm not, I'll settle with sharing this embarrassing, yet entertaining picture of me as a youngster. Yes, I made my own Cardinal baseball card of myself. I could have at least sported a glove or bat, right?!

I am obsessed with this dress from Anthropologie.

1 - I love that it's actually long-sleeved. Don't get me wrong, I like how 3/4 length sleeves look, but when it's really cold, I need long sleeves!
2 - I love this color for winter. A great pop of color for the drab winter months.

I'm a huge Cardinals fan! I grew up in St. Louis and went to Cards games all the time when I was younger - when the tickets didn't cost as much. I actually named my childhood dog after a Cardinals player, Ozzie Smith, who was known for his defensive brilliance, as well as his famous flips on the field (you can imagine how much I loved that as a child!)

Needless to say, I'm thoroughly enjoying this World Series between the Cards and the Rangers. The series is 1-1, and the games have been gripping - both very close. The Cards actually had a pretty crummy regular season, so I'm still in shock that they made it this far. Anyway, just wanted to broadcast my excitement! Hope everyone had a fantastic weekend! G and I ran 8 miles on Saturday morning (the farthest we've ever run!) and went out Saturday night to celebrate two of our friend's birthdays. We enjoyed some fabulous shrimp quesadillas, cocktails, and great company. It was also the first time I pulled my boots out - I have to say boots and scarves are the only reason I can live with the fact that it's getting colder. I have several pairs of boots and probably don't need another pair, but when I came across these Enzo Angiolini boots on sale at Nordstrom this morning, I gave into temptation. I had a pair of cheap grey boots that fell apart last winter, so I think it's a gap I need to fill in my wardrobe...

Winery Run

Hope everyone's weekends were relaxing! Mine was great. On Saturday, my husband and I went to a local winery with some friends to participate in their "Wine at the Line" - a 5 mile race followed by free wine and live music. My kind of evening. And the weather was just perfect, brisk but not unbearable. This is one of my favorite times of year!

And here are a few pictures we took...

The four of us in front of their vineyards. (My husband ran, I swear, but for some reason wanted to change into jeans post-run.)

Erin and I. Erin was the first woman and the third overall person (out of 981 people!) to cross the line for the 5k event. Her time was 18:33, which is a 5:58 minute mile - impressive, no?!

Erin's husband, Tanner, chose to drink the FOCH wine, which we just thought was funny, in itself. Not to mention he chose the "sweet, fruity" wine, too - we couldn't resist the picture.

G and I ran the 5 mile run and were no where near breaking any records like Erin did, but ran it in 41:28 (8:17 minute miles). We'll take it!

Since the rain continued to fall all weekend (literally all weekend, folks), I'm still on the look-out for some good rain boots. I love Hunters, but I'm thinking about trying to find something different since Hunters are so ubiquitous (yes I just used the word ubiquitous to describe a pair of rain boots...) Anyway, I think these Sperry's (that I blogged about a few days ago) are currently in the lead, but these Kamik rain boots at Nordie's also caught my eye this weekend.

There may be a backlash when I say this, but I've never been a huge fan of Missoni. I don't hate it, but I don't love it. I love color and patterns - don't get me wrong - but I guess I am just more of a "pop" of color girl, a little here and a little there. Missoni can just be too much for me sometimes. But after looking through this collection, I am loving the idea of buying a few of the accessories and the home decor items. I like the signature print shoes, the scarves, the bags, the pillows.... anything that gives me a little pop of Missoni here and there, but not too over-the-top.

Lake Weekend

Well, it's Monday morning again. I'm struggling today - still wishing I was at my friend's lake house in northern Indiana, where we spent this past weekend swimming, boating, socializing, and enjoying a few cocktails. While it was a little cloudy all weekend, it was a great break from the 100 degree weather we've had the last several weeks. Fall really is right around the corner, whether we're ready for it or not.

While I spent all of Saturday in my swimsuit, I realized that I'd love a new cover-up that's less like a cover-up and more like a dress. I found this Tibi caftan on sale at Piperlime and fell in love with it. The cut and color are perfect, and the roped belt embellishment makes it a little more casual while still being stylish.

Runner's Knee and a Dress on Sale

So, I know that this is not a runner's blog by any means, but I thought I would refer to my blog buddies to see if any of you have some advice for me. I'm training for my first half marathon, and everything is going fantastically other than my knee pain that popped up in Minnesota a few weeks ago. I think it started from running up and down all of the hills up there. After doing some research, I'm pretty sure I have "runner's knee", which is nothing too serious, but painful enough for me to wonder if I should be pushing through the pain or not. Has anyone experienced this before and have any suggestions or advice?? I've been stretching and icing it several times a day and not sure what else to do at this point. I'm bummed because I've been running for several months now and felt fabulous on my long runs all the way up until this knee pain.... not sure if I should just quit or try to push through the pain. :-/

Annnnyway, how was everyone's long weekends? Anyone do anything fun? My husband and I went to see "The Help", which was fantastic. I read the book, and loved it, so I was a little concerned that the movie wouldn't live up to the book - I was pleasantly surprised.

After a 3 day weekend of not doing much, I've got to get back to work, but couldn't help but look through my "Shop it to Me" email before I get started. I came across this DKNY Dolman-Sleeve Dress on sale for $97 from $195 at Neiman Marcus. I love the simple silhouette, and think it's perfect for work. What do you think?

Happy Labor Day Weekend! Its supposed to get up to 98 degrees today, here in Indy, so it's definitely not feeling like the end of summer to me.

I'm sure there are going to be lots of sales this weekend in honor of the holiday, but the one that caught my attention the most is Ann Taylor offering 40% off their full-priced shoes. I'm such a fan of AT's shoes - they're sleek, stylish, and perfect for both work and play.

I also found this Marc Jacobs crossover jersey top on sale at Saks for $70.99 (original $178). Love it.

I hope everyone has a 3 day weekend to enjoy ahead of them. I have a "going away" party to attend on Monday, but other than that, its going to be a relatively relaxing weekend. Can't wait!

Bowling Weekend

Hey all! Hope your weekends were as fantastic as mine! Mine was jam packed with activities all the way through. The best part, though, had to be the duck-pin bowling on Saturday night to celebrate a friend's birthday. Have any of you duck-pin bowled before? It's definitely my kind of bowling.... the ball is smaller and easier to control and you get 3 chances to knock down the pins! Anyway, it was a blast, and I thought I would capture a few pictures of the night for you all.

All in all, it was a great weekend! And in honor of our bowling shoes, I thought I would post about Converses today. I can't decide if I think Converses are ugly or cute. One day I see a cute bohemian-looking girl wear them and I love them, and the next day I see a plain brown pair with the wrong outfit and I hate them. What do you think?? If I bought some, I'd probably get the grey ones (available at Finish Line for $39.99).

Minnesota Pictures

I'm back from Minnesota, which sadly means that summer is over and I've got tons of work to catch up on. On the positive side, my vacation was incredible. The highlights included: 1.) Catching several Walleye on a fishing expedition with my husband and father-in-law 2:) Playing an entire 9 holes of golf for the first time (I've been trying to learn how to play this summer, but had only been to the driving range up until this game. It was definitely a learning experience!) 3.) Pontoon boat rides with the entire family 4.) Pancake breakfasts, steak and fish dinners, and icecream every evening looking out over the lake 5.) Spending lots of time playing with my niece, Charlotte, and her mother (my sister-in-law) announcing that she's pregnant again, which means another niece or nephew will be here in March!

Well, I'm headed off for vacation again! G's family owns a house on Lake Wabana in Minnesota, and we make our way up there at this time every year to enjoy the last few days of summer. Melie Bianco Envelope Clutch

While I've never actually bought anything from Melie Bianco, I've seen several of their bags in magazines over the years. I'm always impressed with how chic the bags look, considering their low prices. Has anyone actually bought a bag from them and know whether or not they look that great in person? I'd be interested to hear about the quality of their bags.

Anyway, bottom line is that I like their up-to-date, trendy styles and I especially like their prices. While browsing around their website today, I found this faux leather envelope bag for only $61. This bag transforms easily from day to night with the detachable strap, which makes it long enough to be a cross-body bag. I'm in love with the clutch itself though. I love the chain detailing, the envelope shape, and the fact that it comes in so many colors. Which one is your favorite??
